Over 20 years ago, Gary Player established The Player Foundation in order to provide quality education, nutrition, medical care and extra-curricular activities to the less fortunate children living in rural areas of South Africa. Today, through several annual events staged in the USA, Asia, the UK and South Africa, the foundation has expanded its charitable efforts to support underprivileged children's education globally. Proceeds from the 2006 Gary Player Invitational at Wentworth will be allocated to satisfy the critical needs of schools in poverty-stricken communities.

The Gary Player Foundation is headquartered in Palm Beach, Florida and operates as a 501 C (3) non-profit organization.
